Should cats eat a high protein diet

Jennifer Coates, DVM Digestive, physiology and nutritional needs change as cats ages, which implies that what they ate if they were younger may no more be ideal.

And with this cats living longer than ever before, locating the best nutritionally formulated food for senior cats is a lot more important. Qualities of an excellent Senior Cat Food The very best foods for older cats generally have the next: High Antioxidant Levels With advanced age comes a rise in the production of free radicals in the body.

Free radicals are natural byproducts of metabolism. They contain oxygen and so are missing an electron, making them highly reactive. Free radicals steal electrons from whatever is nearby-proteins essentially, cell DNA and membranes, for instance. When another molecule is forced to stop an electron, it becomes a free of charge radical itself often, which compounds the nagging problem. Antioxidants can donate electrons to free radicals without becoming free radicals themselves, breaking the cycle of molecular and cellular damage thereby.

Vitamin E, Vitamin C citric acidVitamin A, selenium and carotenoids are powerful antioxidants. So a food which includes these is a great option for a senior cat.

Skinny cats need a complete large amount of fat to increase their caloric intake. Overweight cats can do with a little less. The increased loss of muscle tissue is particularly concerning because they are at increased threat of illness and death. Extra carnitine an amino acid can help in this regard also.

The kidneys are accountable for removing excess phosphorous from the bloodstream, and with CKD, they have trouble doing this. High blood-phosphorous levels can leach calcium from the bones, make cats unwell feel, result in more kidney damage and cause other problems within the physical body.

For these reasons, senior cat foods contain reduced degrees of phosphorus generally. High-quality protein sources contain less phosphorous than do those of poor. Talk to your veterinarian to look for the best protein food and source for your cat. Omega-3 ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS Most older cats have problems with some extent of arthritis.

Omega-3 essential fatty acids are usually beneficial in the treating arthritis by reducing inflammation and the experience of enzymes that breakdown joint cartilage. Feline cognitive dysfunctionwhich resembles dementia in people, is another universal problem for older cats. Research in dogs indicate that omega-3 essential fatty acids appear to involve some ability to decrease the ramifications of cognitive dysfunction and dementia. Cold-water fish oils salmon, sardines or anchovies, for example will be the best resources of omega-3 essential fatty acids for cats.

Palatability And last, but not least certainly, the very best food for older cats shall smell and taste irresistible to be able to stimulate their appetite.

Cats may become extremely finicky because they get older, so I contemplate it an excellent success if we are able to encourage them to eat a nutritious diet. Not only do you want to spoil them if they reach this point, but it may also be difficult to get them to eat anything at all. So rather than trying to force these cats to consume the most nutritious option, when the finish is near, ideal nutrition requires a back seat to any nutrition at all.

Ask your veterinarian to assist you determine which food could be best for your cat predicated on their particular needs. By: Dr.

  1. yes I too have had many cats over the years and no I do not believe in just letting them eat all day ,when theyre kittens yes I do have a kitten now yes I do let him eat all day but Im slowly feeding him less he has to be on the schedule the same as myself , too much food means too much litter means too much poop 😬

  2. My 5 months old kitten (at the time) had a lot of behavioural issues for the first 40 days or so after adopting him. After I stopped freefeeding him he became much more well-behaved and much easier to train

    • Oh Jackson🙈, you didn’t even touch on *ABUSE* ! In fact I have two siblings right now that were *purposely* *starved* . They could not grow or heal mentally, until I had *undone* what their previous owners had done to them. Once they were nourished back to health enough to _actually_ begin eating like normal cats, I had to heal their mental scars. They had *MASSIVE* food associated anxiety that was holding them back from enjoying life, greatly. I realized I never wanted them to look at me like I have the _only_ “say” whether they live or die every day, like I’m the big bad sheriff that holds the only jingley keys to their cell. It allows for *ZERO* confidence in THEMSELVES! I wanted them to know that they will ALWAYS be able to be confident that a safety-net exists, and that they can access at any time if they ever see fit. I only do this with dry food, and then I give them their wet food and raw food at their set times every day. It strengthened our bond and their mental health so much, that you wouldn’t even believe these are the same babies. Yes, at first, there was occasional “unnecessary eating”, but it was always secretly monitored by me, and never to the point where it was packing on unhealthy weight, but that’s a step in therapy. I also noticed, with both of them, that they would, like clockwork, come back to the bowls to see that they still existed, walk by and do a quick glance, and then that would be enough for them to be “calming”. It was so quickly after I did this that their anxieties lessened and then disappeared all together. Now, they completely understand that their future is always going to be set, and they almost never touch their dry bowls anymore, and would much rather wait for me to give them the real yummy stuff, because they *now* trust that I always will. But I don’t believe they would have come around “mentally”, as completely as they did, if I did not do the free feeding. Also, like you said, cats are not _grazers_ by nature, and they’re certainly not dogs lol. With the few exceptions, they won’t sit there and eat ridiculous amounts of food just for the sake of it being there. Free feeding isn’t about being a solution to their hunger, or giving a pet owner less responsibilities, it’s about instilling *confidence* in them. You could also argue that cats naturally must have that confidence in themselves in the wild that they will be able to feed themselves and provide for themselves when they are hungry. Sorry Jackson, love you, but sometimes owners, especially of abused or rescued cats, have to hear stuff like this, and I terribly wish you would have said it.

    • THIS is such an important part of cat health. Helps with weight issues also. BUT with diabetics, feeding twice daily is really recommended because of the insulin. Good thing about cat diabetics is that they can go into remission once regulated.

    • Jackson my cat eats the proportions she must eat 2 times in a day and she always meows when i have food and its my turn to eat

  3. How do you stop your cat from begging/stealing human food? (We dont free feed)

  4. This was one of the first things I did when I adopted my cats, and it was because I knew you said a schedule was better. Shallow dish, also! I remember that, for their sensitive whiskers.

  5. The amount of I do this and i have none of the consequences and wow, guess im lucky my cat dosent do this wooooow!.

You are all full of shit and you know it. There is no way your just got here asses are rewiring hundreds of years of evolutionary growth and food associations for the cat species.

CATS-ARE-NOT-GRAZERS. PERIOD. Stop thinking your cat thinks along human means. Im currently living with a cat thats eating itself to death daily because her parents think they are the best cat owners ever. Cat intervene because shes not mine and its its horrible to watch her waddle halfway down the halfway and stop because shes so damn fat.

Put your damn pride aside and listen to the man, most folks PAY for his insight and time. You chuckle heads are getting prime tips for free and all you can do is stroke your own egos in the comments section? What about your cat though?

  6. Tarzan is 10, Jane is 9 and Cleo is 8 years old. All have been free fed their entire life without issue. Then a few months ago I switched to scheduled feeding. That lasted a few weeks until I got sick of Jane coming in my bedroom at 3 am and meowing her head off because she wanted to be fed. All cats get along well, are the proper weight and have marvelous personalities.

  7. Jackson… I would love to hear what you have to say about toxoplasmosis… I love cats but things like this only make me very sad, mainly because there is no real cure to it, like a vaccine,,… (honestly i am still in denial about it existing but it never hurts to take precautions;;) I would love to know how I could protect myself while being able to love my furry friends to the fullest…!

  8. Anybody see videos from Jackson about making mealtime satisfying? My former street cat is a beggar and behaves like he is frantic and desperate around food. He has reached his goal weight, if I keep giving him extra nibbles hell get fat.

  9. Jackson Galaxy I have a question. What are your thoughts of grain versus grain free cat food.

  10. this is a sound theory but how to implement into someone who has a work schedule?

  11. I have a cat that is hungry all the time. Ive had urinalysis, blood, liver, urine, and fecal test done in the last year. All good. Ive changed her from automatic dry cat feeder to wet food only, in which i feed her at specific times, and no matter what she is always hungry. I do try to play with her but after she hasnt eaten in like 5-6 hours she doesnt want to play. She will go straight for the cat dish! She is an American short hair. I feed her one can of 3oz cat fancy feast in the morning at about 7am. And then 2 oz at about 4pm, it used to be at 6 pm but she drives me nuts and so I feed her at 4pm. Then I feed her the rest of the cat food at 10:30pm. She is an indoor cat, and she is a chubster. Probably about 13 Ilb. What am I doing wrong?

  12. Im the kind of person who needs to eat specific quantities of at specific times, can I do the same for my cat? And if I can, how much wet /dry food should I give my little devil?

  13. Help! I’ve switched to a schedule but my cat absolutely refuses to eat anything. She must be really hungry but just won’t eat. We’re introducing new cats very slowly which will be a factor. Help?

  14. My cat has no other issues other than eating plastic. Ive free choiced my cat and so has my mom and we never had behavioral issues.

  15. My cat was free fed but with me she isn’t free fed, but she is having difficulty transitioning and will steal the dog food(the dog gets regular meals but sometimes prefers grazing ). Any tips for transitioning to scheduled feeding from free feeding?

  16. Feeding cats every five to six hours is a great idea…unless you happen to live alone and work long hours. Im frequently gone for 10 straight hours and Im not going to leave 8 cats home alone with no dry food out.

  17. I have a ragdoll cat and Ive been spending lots of money on my I have 4 of them the ragdoll cat decided to stop eating because she did he didnt like the food so I spoon feed my cat

  18. I have 4 cats (2 older female, 2 male kittens) and the older ones dont get along with any other cat.

Free feeding went well for years, until we got the cranky solitaire cat. She is turning our living room into a warzone since the kittens arrived.

  19. Love you Jackson!! I give my kitten timed feeding since we adopted her from the SPCA. However she’s always hungry. We also have two small dogs and she’s always getting into their food. I don’t know what’s going on.

  20. We feed our cats twice a day. My cat has a habit of getting on the counter whenever food is left out(even if it is just fresh bread that is cooling) and this has been causing problems with me and my roommates. I’m wondering if splitting it up further into three meals a day might help, but it’s something I would have to get my roommates to work with me on, which feels like an impossible feat sometimes.

  21. this isnt very convenient for those of us with 9-6 jobs or are not at home the whole day. also I have 6 cats so feeding them small meals would be quite the hassle because some cats would gobble up the food belonging to other cats hmm

  22. Started feeding my boy 4 times a day and he’s mood has changed sooo much! He’s relaxed, much more sociable and follows rules better . He’s always been super cuddly but now he’s even sweeter 🙌🏻

  23. That’s all wonderful for people regular times in and out to work, shift like me no alternative but to free Freed

  24. ok Jackson Ive been thinking about stop free feeding my cat but idk if he can manage, hes 11 years old. i work most of the day and the last time we left a little for him to eat, when it was finish got home fed him and he gulped down the food and then threw it back up undigested. If i start Im afraid i have to constantly clean up after him. So what do I do?

  25. Austin drags his paw several times across in front of the food dish if he doesnt like the food, telling me he wants to cover it with litter, he aint eatin that stinkin food!!! we adopted his sister Jasmine, she is now doing that same thing.

  26. I free feed, but it actually works out somehow. They hunt the birbs at the birdfeeder, then eat. I do canned food in the morning, and free feed hard food and treats. They are both healthy weights. I do this because I am almost totally bed ridden and its about all I can manage. My mom does the same thing, and two of her babies are getting dangerously overweight. It clearly isnt a good routine for them.

  27. I have a 9 week old kitten and want to stop free feeding. How often should I feed him?

  28. I leave a bowl of dry food out all day and feed my cat wet food 3 times a day at about 5 hours apart. the dry food is good for her dental hygene but she gets the main nutrition, water and food source from the wet food. i also made sure to find high quality dry food without grain or berries or fruit with a high meat percentage. youd be surprised how hard it is to find good quality dry food in germany, it honestly makes me really angry how companies are allowed to get away with it and charge an extreme amount of money for low quality food

  29. I have cats and they eaten through the plastic bags of treats to eat every last one

  30. I totall agree with you Jackson. I noticed my cats behaviour becoming spoil-brattish and I began removing his bowl after every meal. I also switched things around so that he wasnt fed when he demanded it (going into kitchen and meowing constantly) but had to wait until he was called into the kitchen. It worked like a dream. He picked up the discipline very quickly and began to realise that the kitchen was not a place to hang out in, begging for food and that he will only be fed when he abides by the rules. He would even sometimes come into the kitchen early, take one look at my face and turn around and go back inside the living room and wait to be called. Who says cats cant be trained. If they are badly behaved, its the owners fault and we are doing thrm no favours by allowing them to rule the house. Thanks for the confirmation that scheduled feeding is best.

  31. I have a cat who is a male unneutered and we feed him two 1/2 meals a day and all he does is walk around begging for food he attacks us when we have food he meows all day and meows when he sees us eating. I am so annoyed with his behavior. 😒 How does one disipline a cat or train them?

  32. So Jackson after I feed him do I take whatever he does not eat and put it a side til next time he eats the only thing is he only eats wet food from a bady thats how I got him at 3 months he is 8 now but I got him because they said he wouldnt eat but all it was that he didnt want dry food but as soon as I gave him wet food it was all good but I leave his food out all the time I go through 47cans of food in 3weeks a lot is wasted as it get dry and he won,t eat it so now I know for 8 years l,ve been doing it wrong my bad and he is the best cat he will sleep in the middle of my back he just makes me feel so loved l,m on girls friends I pad so just as you know Im a cat guy

  33. My grammy feeds my aunts cat *so often* and I *HATE* it so much. The cat is really, really overweight and she hates her belly being touched (I know cats dont like that anyways, but Im not sure if it has to do with her weight too). If I pick her up, sometimes her joints crack or pop. She hates her back legs being touched. She is 9 years old, and her name is Penelopy. My grammy doesnt care if shes overfeeding her!! >:(

  34. Do you have any tips for transitioning free-fed cats to scheduled mealtime cats?

  35. I leave hard cat food out for my cats 24/7 and I have done that for over 33 years . I have had 11 cats over the years and I currently have 3 now (totally indoors) I have never had ANY problems free feeding as you call it , all of my cats are healthy and happy . Hell I even feed them sweets from time to time and every one of my cats Ive had has lived to be at least 18 years old and some lived to be 22 years old . Free feeding works very well for my cats and I .

  36. I need a answer !
So I have a cat called Daisy (she’s really greedy) she rushes food and after she finishes before my other cat she’ll walk over and eats his, should I keep my cat in the other room for her food or what ? Someone help my parents may sell her because she’s greedy…

    • i’m not a professional or anything but i’ve heard people say that using a food maze is really good for cats that rush their food, it’s also really stimulating

  37. I cut free feeding and put a small bowl dry food in the morning and give him wet food in the evening. He’s a little fat and super cute. I’m wanting to move him over to a complete raw diet and have started playing with him more. Im about home catification and giving him the best life possible. He’s 4. He’s my dog’s buddy.

  38. Hey Jackson. My cats are on free feeding. How do we start non free feeding them? Me and my gf usually leave for work mon to fri. So if we dont free feed them, theyll eat morning and evening only. Will that be alright? Thanks!

  39. I have 2 cats. Both male, brothers. One (Jasper) seems perfectly fine with free feeding. Perfectly accepting to being an inside cat. But my other cat, Max, is needing more. He is now wanting to go outside we keep stopping him. His behavior shows me that he needs to be satisfied with more as an indoor cat. So please suggest tips on how to start feeding him, how to make it seem like a hunt for him. Im building him a cat tower to give him the climbing fun he needs. I thought that maybe Ill put his food at the top sometimes.. Im taking small steps to make his life more acceptable. He had access to windows to see outside. Im just needing to know the way to feed him, to satisfy his wild side.

  40. My vet says Cats like it when you stick your finger in their bums once in a while, it calms them down. Be sure to use some vasoline so your finger will slide in with no problem. Works on males and females

  41. I have an F2 Savannah. I just moved to free feeding kibble because of her aggressive behavior towards being fed. She used to wake me up at 6am every morning by meowing and forcing me to wake up by walking hard on my ribcage while I slept. She was up to two cans of food a day and she would possess about food, demanding to get my attention. She would act out by doing irritating things like walking on my computer when im on it or stepping on my tv remote to turn it on or off (or even soar the volume) to demand my attention to get me to feed her. Now that I use a kibble – free feeder, she no longer panics to be fed. I really think it depends on the cat, and as far as my cat, she is much happier now. i do clearly get that personally feeding your cat develops a close bond and that being a part of the feeding process develops an unconditional love between you and your family member but if you pay attention to the bond you have together, you can easily figure out if free feeding is right for your cat. That love shouldnt change by you limiting the role you play in feeding your cat. Ive seen many of my friends cats seem to only want to interact with their owners when theyre hungry. Thats the key, to develop a strong relationship with your cat outside of just the feeding process.

Point #2 is that because of the wildness inbred into my cat she burns a ton energy throughout the day. Obesity is a non-issue. If you have a lazy cat that over sleeps, free-feeding is not an option due to health.

  42. Is this the same thing with humans we have free feeding when we shouldnt ? Lol

    • Its about balancing what we eat and not over eating or snacking? Right

  43. I have a 12 week old kitten, ive been free feeding him since i got him about a week ago, i notice hes gaining quite the belly so im nervous about health problems as he gets older, however i work 10 hours a day 5 days a week, so im gone about 12 hours out of the day, so theres no one else to feed him while im gone, what do you recommend since im not able to feed him on that schedule of every 6 hours??

  44. I have a new cat and shes always fighting with my home cat i free feed them all the time and i think that this concept of not free feeding them is great so i can feed them together when food time comes without having any problems but when Im at work ill let food out for them until Im home.

  45. Thank goodness I have a feeding schedule for my cats. They do beg for human food from time to time and Ill give them small treats as long as they work for it since they need the exercise. Im happy cat mom.

  46. So I have a 3 month old kitten, he meows a lot at night. How long should I wait in between meals for him? I know I should feed him 3 times a day.

  47. Jackson I always was a huge fan of your show cat from hell but no I have two coats of my other sisters by the litter they used to be best friends and one day out of the sudden I don’t know what happened but they hate each other they’re scratching that biting one another and I’m afraid someone is going to get hurt or am I had to get rid of one of them and I don’t want to do that because my babies and I love Bob can you please give me some tips on how to thanks this thank you

  48. Ive been free feeding both of mine for years

They only eat every like, find hours

They dont just gorge themselves in it

  49. So many had no overweight cats! IRL, I know so many overweight cats, and had one or two myself.

I used to free feed, because that is what you did. I dont anymore, mostly because I have my cats on a wet food diet, and you cant leave out wet food.

  50. Me considering going live that date:… Oh this is six years old. 🤔

  51. Hi Thank You for these great tips…. My Cat Mr Wonderful is 9 years old , what do you suggest for helping him get off the free feeding he is on ??? Thank You & Hava CatterRiffic Day!!!

  52. “Living with cats is living with compromise.” – Galaxy
That’s s light way to put it 😂

  53. We found an abandon 4 week old kitten. She is now 6 weeks old and eating wet food mixed with dry food. Now all of a sudden she has become food aggressive. I can barely get the food on her plate without her jumping on her food, growing, and swatting. HELP! How do I change her behavior???

  54. My wee kitty chico is nearly 4 months old and soon will be out and about, I’ve always got a small bowl of dry food, not treats. He gets wet food in morning with a small amount of milk, then water left and always full beside dry food. I then give him some cold meat and treats in middle of day and again a small amount of milk, then he gets another sachet if wet food at teatime and more milk. He always has dry food, he’s growing fast and needs the extras

  55. My mom free feeds her cat and she eats it like her life depends on it, she can also get aggressive and is very irritable. i recently got a kitten would it be a good idea to feed it live mice (the really tiny ones)

  56. I need help with a food aggressive kitten we have tried feeding him at the same time every day and even in separate rooms…. I can’t even put down the can of food before he trying to climb up my leg and trying to steal the can of food help please !

  57. I have two cats, should I feed them with the same large plate or should I use two separate bowls?

  58. A very important aspect to all this thats being ignored here is whether you are in a multiple animal home. If there are other animals in the home your cat will tend to over eat because they are paranoid that theyll miss out to another pet. My cat happens to be my only pet, therefore free-feeding seems to work perfectly. She nibbles when she gets a bit hungry and she doesnt stress over food anymore like before. She used to force me to feed her with meows and bad behavior.

  59. Hi Jackson, why is my kitten still begging after meals? How much should I feed them if the are under 5 lbs?

  60. What if my cat always go outside and comes inside about 2-3 times a day and eats as much as he wants then takes a nap then goes back outside and repeats? He sleeps inside and comes when called so we know where he is at all times mainly

  61. I stopped free feeding my two cats and with in three weeks the pooing outside the box stopped. Also they have to work hard for thier treats

  62. I have a friend who constantly has food out for her cat and refuses to play with her because she wants her cat to be a cuddly kitten not a playful one who meows for attention….Ive tried explaining that thats not really how cats work but it goes one year and out the other….but then shes getting mad at her cat for attacking her feet….Ive even offered to get her some cat toys and even play with her cat for her (because Im crazy about cats) but she keeps refusing because she thinks that just not playing with her will make her suddenly no longer be playful….Im at a dead end and Im ready to just take that kitty….I have a cat too but Im very big on playtime being an everyday thing

  63. Bbut what do you do when you have to work long hours ?? I cant starve my cat

  64. Is it harmful to free feed my cats only the amount they should have in a day? I’ve done that since I was a kid and I never really thought about it too much.

  65. I free feed because i worry im not going to be around on the scheduled times, i think its more important to wash the bowls daily. I think if cats are not grazers, then whats the issue? I love my cat but shes not my life. I leave my front door open during the day so she can roam around in the sun, she loves rolling around on the concrete, and of course running thru the bush like a crazed kitty that she is. Shes always indoors in the evening as she enjoys her home comforts too. Some things I agree with Jackson but this is not one of them.

  66. Welp, this is the exact opposite of what the instructions from my vet are 🙁

  67. What about if the cat wont eat on a schedule? One of my cats will eat only two mouthfuls of food and then walk away and she wont just get hungry enough eventually.

  68. It also mean mice are happy and other creatures… people like to get pets and not knowing much about them at all … drives me crazy

  69. One of my cats prefers french fries over meat. She is so weird. (I don’t feed her french fries….. often)

  70. If I dont have food out for my stupid furbaby 24/7 she screams at me. She doesnt meow, she doesnt yowl, she _screams_ or squeaks.

    • Patchwork The Dragon Noodle trained her by ignoring her scream. When shes silent give her the food

  71. I got my cat that throws up after she eats. What can I do about this?

  72. My cat has meal time & he usually bites me hard in the morning exactly at the time I’m supposed to feed him. Is that behavior normal?

  73. I just got a six week old kitten and I already have a one year old cat. My kitten is showing food agressive. I do no free feed. But the smaller car is bullying my older cat now I dont know how to stop small cat (Pauly) from bullying big cat (Alex) its teaching Alex to hiss now. Should I feed separate rooms? Different dishes?

  74. Hi There Mr Galaxy ….. Do you have a video on how to make economically friendly winter houses for cat??? The stays I have really tamed and they really like our closed in deck and last year we also cut holes in styrofoam coolers but is there something better ??? I told my boyfriend the styrofoam coolers should also be inside rubbermaid tubs with lids with a cut out for easy in / out accessibility with straw and or hay …. any other suggestions???

  75. What if my cat is obsessive about food and wont stop meowing until she gets fed?

  76. my sentiments exactly I dont think that food should be left out all day I think that they should eat at certain times of the dayand thats it and Im not a fan of canned cat food specially since my cat does not go outside it smells bad and makes the bowel movements smell bad it makes the urine smell bad so know my cat gets dry cat food and occasionally I will give him some slivers of chicken or liver or beef

  77. jackson.. i need your assistance. i’m already dividing meals up.. i’ve tried so many things. i recently adopted a little snowshoe mix cat (only 5.5# tho supposedly 1.5 yrs old). found out she was part of a cat hoard, so i’m pretty sure that’s why she’s so crazy about food. she’ll start eating out of her bowl, then go to my other cat’s bowl, pushing her out of the ways, then will go back to her own bowl, etc. this happens constantly, & my other cat (who previously could graze during the day) isn’t getting enough food these days. i have to sneak her morsels, which rarely works since the tiniest food noise will attract the new one. it’s very hard to take my food into the bathroom to be fed (will only work for the small amount of canned food i feed for lunch) – she’s not crazy about having a set time for dry food. i’ve had to put her up on a bar stool with the canned food, or hide her behind a piece of plexiglass, to keep the little one away. the upcoming problem will be when i go camping. normally i’d leave extra food/water & would be fine for a couple days. i know the little cat will eat all that i leave out right away, leaving none for the other & nothing for either for most of my trip. (side comment physically there’s no issues)

  78. What schedule is best? Or how to pick one?
    What about the amount?
I want to adopt a cat so I want to be fully informed 😀

    • Nicole Defranc the amount depends on the cats weight and if it’s dry or wet food, your vet should be able to guide you on that. Most food brands have a chart that suggests the amount of food appropriate per day according to their weight
I personally feed him 4 times a day, kinda following my food schedule! Around 8-9am, 12pm, 6pm and the last one before I go to bed, 11pm (coz it’ll be a while before he eats again..)
This is whats been working for him, every cat is different… Alsi they are really good at letting you know if they are hungry!!

  79. When giving the cat meal times I’m guessing u leave absolutely no food out in between meals? Or just a little bit? I feel bad not leaving food out but i also feel like if i leave a little bit out its still free feeding no??

  80. What about kittens? My vet said that we should free feed for the first year.

  81. Can someone give me advice how i could feed my cat right because Im working 12 hours a day

  82. i have an obese cat, i want to switch to scheduled feeding so that she will lose weight and hopefully live a long happy life, how much do i feed them and how far apart are the meals?

  83. My kitten wants to drink out of the toilet. I feel that is not healthy.
We put the lid down all the time now. She stands on toilet lid & cries.
She turns over her water bowl. If I feel sorry for her, feeling she may get dehydrated & fill up water bowl,
    She turns it over again.
Help! Tug of war going on.
