Whole Food plant-based diet results

What do medical researchers consider plant-based diets? In addition to the German Society for Nutrition, the consensus is that such diets work during all life stages, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, adolescence, and for athletes.

In conditions of diet, veganism implies that all food stuffs are plant-based, and all animal or animal-derived foods are excluded: including meat, fish, eggs and dairy and honey. How many vegans is there in the united kingdom today? Without precise figures because of this represents a doubling between and 0. What exactly are the four basic food groups in the vegan diet? Generally terms, the four basic food groups in the vegan diet are: legumes, grains, fruits and vegetables.

Of course, nuts, seeds and fungi are also usual elements of any plant-based diet. Seeds and fungi are simply that – seeds and fungi. The factor considered key to making a worldwide step towards more plant-based eating is for vegan food to be normalised within society. Ethical veganism can be explained as a philosophy that avoids the use of animals, not merely for food, also for anything that depends on animal products e. It also reaches occupations, entertainment, sports, etc.

Ethical veganism includes a deep respect for all life, believing that we haven’t any to exploit animals for our very own benefit, nor to take care of other animals as if they haven’t any rights. Environmental veganism can be explained as the fact that there is enough evidence showing that eating a plant-based diet is both more sustainable and considerably less damaging to the surroundings than eating an animal-based diet.

Animal-based industries are believed to be unsustainable and also to play an enormous part in leading to environmental damage – including: greenhouse gas emissions, pollution, deforestation, and the use of water, fossil fuels, and land.

A sustainable diet has low environmental impact; increases food and nutritional security; provides healthy lives for future and current generations; is protective of biodiversity and ecosystems; is culturally acceptable, accessible socially, economically affordable, fair, safe and healthy and may optimise human and natural resources. What does the human food supply chain incorporate? A significant reason for having to worry about the meals supply chain may be the carbon footprint of our food.

For instance, there is a huge difference in the impact of buying out-of-season products from half way around the world, in comparison to buying locally produced, seasonal products. What does the idea of trade-offs mean?

A trade-off is a decision which involves reducing or losing an excellent or level of one option in substitution for gaining a quantity or quality of an alternative solution option. Types of food trade-offs: Organic costs a lot more than non-organic, but could be better for human health insurance and the surroundings; Sustainably-produced food from distant countries is wonderful for the creating country, but includes a high carbon footprint; Processed food is cheaper, but worse for human health.

I’m interested in the WFPB Nutritional Dietitian program you found. Could you talk more about that.

    • @NMJ oh and remember the number on the scale is just one indicator. Make sure you take pictures. Muscle is more dense than fat. You may slim down and tighten up. But the number on the scale may not change.

    • Awsome job on going plant based. Try to learn how to count calories. You may be eating right at maitance level. Or start uping your workout routine and eat the same amount. That should help.

    • Congratulations! I wish you the best on your journey i just started eating plant based foods i feel great Im looking forward to get of my blood pressure meds we got this!

  22. Melissa, I have read that if it is plant based it us ok to eat “free. I am experiencing that this isn’t a true guideline. What do you say to this? Ty

    • Well if losing weight or reversing t2 diabetes is your goal freely eating calorie dense plant foods like bread, rice, pasta, avocado, coconut is not going to be helpful. The majority of what I eat is vegetables, both raw and cooked. If you focus on vegetables and fruit, lower calorie foods, then typically you wont need to track calories. I dont track, but I dont eat bread, rice or pasta, either. If I have an avocado I have a serving: 1/8th a day.

  23. Do you have any suggestions on what you eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinners. I am prediabetic and trying to get better.

    • If you look at my other videos, I have done a what I eat in a day video before. To give you a general idea I typically eat overnight oats or savory oats for breakfast, a huge salad for lunch and either another salad for dinner or something such as a cauliflower rice stir fry, homemade soup, tacos, etc. My 21 Day WFPB Kickstart Challenge has a full meal plan I created based on how I eat. Its on my website http://www.plantbasedmelissa.com

  24. Thank you for this vid. So glad Ive found you this 31st day of Jan 2019. I have been eating a more plant based diet for the last two weeks so far. Ive viewed so many vids, bypassed this one but came back. I appreciate your honesty and sharing your experience. Wish me luck.

  25. 105lbs?? OH girl no. Dont ever let anyone tell you how much you should weigh. Thats bullshit. You keep on as you are and become a healthy weight that you feel good at. Thats it. Im sure some chart somewhere says I should weigh like 110# lbs at 52, but if I feel and look healthy at 135 or 140 lbs, Im going to stay there.

  26. what do you do in place of milk, i love my whole milk, that and cheese will be my biggest challenge

  28. Check out Roxy Dillons book Bio-Young for hair- and skin-related issues. Shes a nutritionist with a science background. It might help. All natural and very interesting. Congratulations on your wonderful weight loss and health results. You are so right about needing to understand the why of things, too.

    • Mine lowered right away. When I started I was taking 70 units of insulin a day. I was completely off the insulin in 4 weeks, and have been off it for just under 2 years now.

  29. You are super inspiring! I’ve done this for 4/5 weeks now and have lost 10 lbs.

    • No amount of weight training (which I do) will get rid of all my loose skin.

  30. The best video! Youre beautiful. I love your authenticity. Thank you thank you so much for making this video

  31. For your hair, try mixing coconut oil with castor oil and apply twice a week, keep for a couple of hours and shampoo, itll thicken your hair nourish it and it will grow faster and thicker.

  32. Im very new,,, if oil can not be used what do you cook fried potatos in? Forgive me for sounding stupid,,,

    • I dont fry, but you can saute in a pan with vegetable broth, roast the same way, or stick in an air fryer.

  33. Thank you SO much! Just started my WFPB journey and came across your video. SO proud of you and really appreciate your encouragement. Agree with you – GO ALL IN from day one.

  34. You have given wonderful information here and what you did is very encouraging, but why is it so many videos come up out of audio-video sync. It is so hard to watch it out of sync.

  35. Hi there, I do feel that the plant based diet is a very good healing and detoxing diet. Now I recommend for you to add fish once or twice a week, or get some skate liver oil and eat liver once a fortnight. This diet is amazing but once you get near your goal weight and health I believe you need to add fish oils and some nutrient rich meat (liver and organ meat) for your hair, and for your skin. Most plant based people look good at first because their diet is soooo much better than it was, but then after a couple of years they start missing nutrients and their hair and skin suffers xxx

  36. I am in the first week of a plant based diet. My parents, grandparents, and great grandparents had type two diabetes, cancer, hypertension. I was diagnosed with pcos, hypertension, insulin resistance and infertility. They immediately wanted to put me on a pill and injections. And a ketogenic diet. But I went for a second opinion and met with another physician who recommended Dr. Barnard and gave me his book lets get back to health! So inspired by your video so proud of you!

  37. Great job! I lost my hair before plant based diet so probably it doesn’t have anything with you diet. Now i wear topper and feeling like a queen 😁

    • ah – Im sorry to hear that you have trouble reading English but thats the only language I know!

    • Here is a comment I gave to someone that didnt understand where the word meat comes from & thinks all places it is mentioned in the bible it is talking about the flesh of animals! – You just dont understand how the Bible got translated into English otherwise you wouldnt be asking this as the word meat comes from an old English word which meant or referred to “food in general.” From an ancient Germanic root, meat wasn’t about animal vs. vegetable but it was the difference between solid food vs. drink or liquids & just as meal which comes from the same word means solid food & the only time someone would use meal when talking about a liquid would be maybe after making a thick smoothie, they would say the drink was a meal all by itself, because in their mind it was filling like a solid food meal was! It wasnt until about the 1300s that meat began to narrow down to its more current meaning of the flesh of animals used for food or the edible part of anything, as a fruit or nut. Some of its original sense still lingers, though, when we refer to the meat of a fruit or nut. Like when someone says break the shell of the nut & eat the meat of it! Or peel the orange & eat the meat! – some people even today say eat the flesh of the nut or fruit after peeling them! – It was the United States Department of Agriculture that defined meat to have a much more specific meaning in the Agricultural Marketing Act of 1946 – – – So the old English meant the part of anything that was solid food to eat you dont eat the shell of the nut or the outer part of the orange, Or as in the Bible from the King James version most of the times that meat is used it talking about solid food in general, not the flesh or body parts of an animal, as an example in the Book of – Genesis 1:29-30 & God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is on the face of all the earth & every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. & to every beast of the earth, & to every fowl of the air, & to everything that creeps on the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: & it was so! – So where do you read God gave us the flesh of animals to use for food neither the animals were to eat the flesh of animals for food – another example in the Book of Hebrews 5:11-14 Of whom we have many things to say, & hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; & are become such as have need of milk, & not of strong meat. For every one that uses milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belong to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good & evil. Yes in both of these scriptures they are talking about solid food not the flesh of animals! God was saying this shall be the food I give to you & the author of Hebrews whether it was, Paul the Apostle or not was saying a baby can only handle milk or liquids were as the one who is grown-up can handle solid food, but the people he was talking to needed milk again as they seem to be having trouble handling the solid food of the word of God, he wasnt talking about the flesh of animals & in Genesis 9:2-5 & the fear of you & the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, & upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things. But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. & surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it & at the hand of man; at the hand of every mans brother will I require the life of man. So 1st of all God put fear into every beast so now they will run away from men, then God was saying everything that has life & is fresh shall be food for you, because the Hebrew words translate to creeping things, moving things, creeping organism & living, alive green (of vegetation) flowing, fresh (of water) & today we know that with a microscope we can see when vegetation is green & fresh its actually alive & flowing with water, then right after that God gives us an example of what He means, such as the green herb have I given you. So, in other words, God was giving Noah a word of wisdom eat what is alive & fresh dont eat that what is dying & rotting because again we know with a microscope we can see when vegetation is not green & fresh is has bacteria & mold growing in it & the water starts to dry up & stops flowing through it! Then God says dont eat neither flesh nor the blood because at every beast you kill & eat Ill require your blood & anyone that kills a man Ill require that mans life! – whereas before the flood animals were not fearful of man & men were killing animals & becoming violent killing each other & also one of the reasons God brought the flood to save men from themselves, – plus 2 of the smartest people in the world spoke that vegans were gentler than meat-eaters – King Solomon wrote Proverbs 15:17 Better a dish of vegetables where there is love than a fattened ox with hatred – Albert Einstein became a vegetarian, only during the last years of his life, even though God was trying to prick his conscience every time he ate. In a letter to Max Kariel, he said, I have always eaten animal flesh with a somewhat guilty conscience, but too late for him as his love for meat already did damage to his stomach! Einsteins quote, Nothing will benefit health or increase chances of survival on earth as the evolution to a vegetarian diet. plus Einstein, a vocal pacifist, subscribing. In a letter dated 27 December 1930, Einstein outlined his own view of the philosophy & its appeal: “Although I have been prevented by outward circumstances from observing a strictly vegetarian diet, I have long been an adherent to the cause in principle. Besides agreeing with the aims of vegetarianism for aesthetic & moral reasons, it is my view that a vegetarian manner of living by its purely physical effect on the human temperament would most beneficially influence the lot of mankind.” Albert said this because he noticed in his travels around the world that vegetarians had a much gentle loving disposition than big meat eaters did! – I myself found that after I stopped eating meat I was able to turn the other cheek whereas before if some took a hit at me I would push back & not take the abuse that they were dishing out! & Daniel was saying he didnt eat any desirable bread, neither meat – solid food – nor wine entered his mouth! There are some Church members who think there is such a thing as a Daniel fast were you stop eating the flesh of animals & eat fruit & vegetables only but Daniel didnt eat nor drink anything that had a food value when he fasted & got alone with God! Yes, in Bible times the flesh of animals wasnt eaten the way we eat it today only Kings & Rulers were big eaters of animal flesh back then & Jesus gave us an example in the Parable of the prodigal son, showing eating animals was only done on festive occasions, not an everyday thing as many people eat it today – “The older brother became angry & refused to go in. So his father went out & pleaded with him. But he answered his father, ‘Look! All these years I’ve been slaving for you & never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!’

  53. Im just curious as to why Im not losing weight? I tried low carb then keto to now plant based. I am getting a lot of bloating from oatmeal. No weight loss at all. I still love not eating animals but I am just stuck with the weight.

    • @June Corrigan muffins? Yeah, unless using a WFPB recipe, I wouldnt eat those. Make sure its fat free refried beans and whole grain or corn tortillas without oil (regular flour tortillas shouldnt be used). Remember, this is about eating plants, fruits, vegetables, beans/legumes, and some whole grains.

    • @Plant Based Melissa ok U think carbs are my issue. Eating muffins for breakfast. Also Im eating refried beans on tortillas. Transitioning from meat 👍

    • @June Corrigan I would need more of what you are eating for breakfast, lunch, dinner, any snacks. Coconut milk is a higher fat milk, so you may want to try a different one.

To give you an example, I eat overnight oats or savory oats for breakfast, my huge salad for lunch and dinner will be something such as a cauliflower rice stir fry.

    • @Plant Based Melissa no meat at all no cheese. I use a little cream in my coffee with coconut milk just to lighten it. I need to lose about 20lbs Im 52 145lbs. I was getting steroids during chemotherapy and I cant seem to drop the xtra weight. I should be more active I was walking a few x a week at the gym but Ive slacked off. I think its carbs but thats going to be hard to stop eating.

  54. Thanks for a great story. I did exactly the same thing you did and I lost 60 bs, cholesterol plummeted, hypertension gone, sleep better, started exercising. It is amazing and the AMA and Big Pharma do not want Americans to adopt this lifestyle.

  55. I saw your one year video and looked you up. I was shocked. So damn proud of you!!! My blood pressure is up to 170/120 and I can’t get my motivation going on… girl how are you doing it??? How do I start?? I’m a widow with kids and need to get healthy!! I was always a tiny size zero but when my hubs died I gained 100 pounds. Ugh!! Anyway, so so so so proud of you!!!

  56. Hi Melissa, I really want to thank you for your videos. Ive been looking for somebody with my same situation (Diabetes). Some doctors, nutritionists, and others told me that doing the WFPB diet might not be good for me because is high in carbs. Please keep doing these videos oriented to people with Diabetes like me. Youre an inspiration to all of us. Thanks

    • Thanks Vicmarys, I do plan on doing more videos, as well as a webinar/masterclass later this year!!!

  57. The cure for cancer and other deadly diseases for the most part is a 100% whole foods plant based diet.
